With the extreme Texas heat and a record number of water leaks, The City of Angleton is preparing for the possibility of instituting its Drought Contingency Plan. The Drought Contingency Plan is implemented during higher-than-normal temperatures coupled with lower-than-normal rainfall. With the chance of rain this weekend, we are cautiously optimistic. However, we wanted to inform you of the potential to move forward with the Stage One voluntary restrictions as we assess conditions next week and prepare to discuss them at the September 12 City Council Meeting. We thank you for your help in voluntarily conserving water at this time and will keep you informed of any plan to implement Stage One of the City of Angleton’s Drought Contingency Plan. Please find details of the plan below.
Water Use Restrictions: The following water use restrictions shall apply to all persons:
Voluntarily limit the irrigation of landscaped areas to alternate days, even-numbered addresses would water on even-numbered days and odd-numbered addresses would water on odd-numbered days. However, irrigation of landscaped areas is permitted at any time if it is by means of a hand-help hose, a faucet-filled bucket or watering can of five gallons or less, or a drip irrigation system.
Use of water to wash any motor vehicle, motorbike, boat, trailer, airplane, or other vehicle is prohibited except on designated watering days. Such washing, when allowed, shall be done with a hand-held bucket or hand-held hose equipped with a positive-shutoff nozzle for quick rinses. Vehicle washing may be done at any time on the immediate premises of a commercial carwash or commercial service station. Further, such washing may be exempted from these regulations if the health, safety, and welfare of the public are contingent upon frequent vehicle cleansing, such as garbage trucks and vehicles used to transport food and perishables.
Use of water to fill, refill, or add to any indoor or outdoor swimming pools, wading pools, or Jacuzzi-type pools is prohibited except on designated watering days.
Use of water from hydrants shall be limited to firefighting-related activities, or other activities necessary to maintain public health, safety, and welfare, except that the use of water from designated fire hydrants for construction purposes may be allowed under a special permit from the city.
Use of water for the irrigation of a water-related recreation/amusement facility is prohibited except on designated water days. However, if the facility utilizes a water source other than that provided by the city, the facility shall not be subject to these regulations.
The following uses of water are defined as nonessential and are prohibited:
- Wash down of any sidewalks, walkways, driveways, parking lots, tennis courts, or other hard-surfaced areas.
- Use of water to wash down buildings or structures for purposes other than immediate fire protection.
- Use of water for dust control.
- Flushing gutters or permitting water to run or accumulate in any gutter or street; and
- Failure to repair a controllable leak(s) within a 48-hour period after having been given notice directing the repair of such leak(s).
